An Electrical Certificate of Compliance is required by law when transferring ownership of a property. In order to issue a Certificate of Compliance an electrical inspection need to be done to comply with The Code of Practice SANS 10142 for the wiring of premises.
A Electrical Certificate of Compliance is valid for two years from the time it was issued. However, if the owner continues to live in the property after two years he/she does not have to have a new CoC issued, a new one is only required if the property in question is sold after two years.
Included in The Code of Practice is all fixed wiring of a building or dwelling and consumer installations external to such dwelling or building.
Excluded in The Code of Practice is all electrical equipment beyond point of supply. Only its selection and application in the installation is concerned.
We at AE Electrical are registered with the Department of Labour to carry out the inspection efficiently. Compliance will be issued only when we are satisfied that the inspected installation complies with SANS 10142.
